English puroresu fandom has to deal with language & cultural barriers like almost no other. So frequently I read something that's completely wrong or a total misunderstand of something real. Unlike western wrestling the majority of story beats happen in interviews, post match comments & outside media. Differ to native sources. Native sources will nearly always be mantain some level of kayfab. Machine translation is useful but very flawed. Do your best. Understand the gaps. And always Cite your sources.

I was putting together a list for myself but I thought I should make it public. The focus is on native sources so please message if I'm missing anything.

Paid weekly magazine released every Wednesday plus digital results, news & columns. By far the gold standard. 330円 for the website. 1,098円 For the current weekly magazine & with scans going back to the 50's. Everything modern plus the majority of the 70's, 80's & 90's are already up. As of writing a lot is up but they have been filling in gaps in from 2000-2013 range. The website translates decently well so it's usually my first place to check transcripts of promos & backstage comments.

I like Puroresu Today a lot because they cover most promotions but where they really shine is their interviews

For English speaking fans Tokyo Sports is mostly known for the yearly Tokyo Sports Awards. A general daily sports newspaper that's covered wrestling for decades. Wrestling coverage for a mainstream crowd. Tokyo Sports also does a lot of entertainment & celebrity gossip. For when you need wrestling coverage, sports scores, idol gossip & alien sighting.

A smaller website that's been around for a long time. Ran by a former Tokyo Sport Katsuji Nagashima.

Deep cable channel that's 24 hour of pro wrestling with some MMA coverage. Launched in Decemeber 1996 and the source for most promotions TV output. Japanese Wiki

A general sport cable channel that airs AJPW, Dragon Gate, Oz Academy & Osaka Pro.

The everything wrestling database. I don't know how you got here without knowing CageMatch.

When I need to double check CageMatch. Also the structure this database differently that makes comparing attendance figures easier.

By far the gold standard. If you're new to Japanese wrestling and don't know where to start the answer is Wrestle Universe. Owned by ABEMA's Cyberfight they air the biggest varity of promotions. Cyberfight currently owns NOAH, DDT, TJPW and has deals to air Marigold, Marvelous, Sendai Girls, Ganpro, Michinoku Pro, Basara, Real Zero1 & Uptown. Many shows air live. The schedule is kept up to date for live and uploads. The archives are extremely deep but can be a little hard to browse if you don't know where to look.

Stardom's streaming service. Some shows are aired live. PPV's go up after a delay. The archives reliably go back to about 2017 but get sketchy after that. Thanks to a bunch of renovations and being handed to different people throughout the years the backlogs can be a nightmare to go through but can be worth your time digging. The older shows have pre match promos with English subtitles.

NJPW's streaming service. I haven't followed NJPW in quite a few years now so I can't say what it's like today.

All Japan's Streaming. I haven't watched AJPW in years but I believe they have live shows and archives going back a few years. Quick skimming and it looks like they have been adding the backlog of GAORA owned footage. Footage before the Mutoh era is owned NTV so don't expect your Misawa/Kobashi classics.

They used to the spot for indie companies streaming but lost a lot of their relevance. Shows are typically up for a limited time. They have a VOD section that hasn't been updated since 2023 that is mostly 666 & Basara content.

Oh boy settle in. Ice Ribbon's streaming gets complicated. This is where Ice Ribbon uploads their "big" shows. You have watch them live on PPV or with the 1000円 subscription you get the archives on a one month delay.

Ice Ribbon not making it easy. It hasn't been updated since 2023 but the archives are filled with a ton of otherwise forgotten matches. . . . Did I mention their DVD store? Yes they still actively sell their entire catalog on DVD.
